Installing Meltano MCP
Before you start
You'll need:
- A Meltano Cloud account with access to at least one workspace.
- Claude, on the web or the desktop app. On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner of your Claude organization adds the connector once for everyone - see Connect it.
That's it. There's nothing to install in your workspace, no API key to generate and no feature to switch on.
Meltano MCP signs you in as you. If you can only read a workspace in the Meltano Cloud app, that's all Claude will be able to do with it either. If you're an administrator, it can make changes. Nothing you can't already do becomes possible because you connected it. See Security and permissions for the details.
Connect it
Meltano MCP is a Claude custom connector. It's added to Claude once, and from then on it's available in any chat.
You'll need these two values:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Remote MCP server URL | https://app.meltano.com/api/mcp |
| OAuth Client ID | VYSIY0tEm2Zg81nuJ6qXo8ZFzCR06Jr8 |
There's no client secret. Leave that field empty.
Meltano MCP is coming to Claude's connector directory. Until it's listed there, add it as a custom connector using the steps below.
Claude Team and Enterprise: add it for your organization
On a Team or Enterprise plan, custom connectors are added at the organization level by a Claude Owner or Primary Owner. On Enterprise, a custom role with permission to manage Libraries can also add them. Each member then connects with their own Meltano Cloud login.
For the Claude Owner (once per organization):
- In Claude, open Organization settings > Connectors.
- Click Add, hover over Custom, then select Web.
- Enter Meltano as the name. This is what members see in their connectors list.
- Enter the remote MCP server URL,
https://app.meltano.com/api/mcp, and click Continue. - Review the detected authentication settings and click Continue.
- Under Authentication, choose Sign in when needed, so each member signs in to Meltano Cloud as themselves.
- Under OAuth client, choose Use your own OAuth client. Enter the OAuth Client ID
VYSIY0tEm2Zg81nuJ6qXo8ZFzCR06Jr8and leave the client secret empty. - Leave Request headers empty.
- Click Add.
For each member:
- In Claude, open Customize > Connectors.
- Find Meltano. It usually has a Custom label.
- Click Connect. A browser window opens asking you to sign in to Meltano Cloud.
- Sign in with your usual Meltano Cloud account and approve access.
Claude Free, Pro and Max: add it for yourself
- In Claude, open Customize > Connectors.
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Enter Meltano as the name.
- Enter the remote MCP server URL,
https://app.meltano.com/api/mcp, and click Continue. - Review the detected authentication settings and click Continue.
- Under OAuth client, choose Use your own OAuth client. Enter the OAuth Client ID
VYSIY0tEm2Zg81nuJ6qXo8ZFzCR06Jr8and leave the client secret empty. - Leave Request headers empty, then click Add.
- Click Connect on the new connector, then sign in with your usual Meltano Cloud account and approve access.
The Claude Free plan allows one custom connector.
Turn it on in a chat
Meltano then appears in your connectors list with its tools available. To use it in a conversation, click + at the lower left of the chat, choose Connectors, and switch Meltano on.
See Anthropic's Get started with custom connectors using remote MCP if Claude's screens look different from these steps.
Your first conversation
Start simple, so you can see it working:
What Meltano workspaces do I have?
Then something more useful:
How has my production workspace been doing this week? Any pipelines I should worry about?
And when something's wrong:
The Salesforce pipeline failed last night. What happened, and what do I need to change?
Claude will fetch the failure, read the logs and the configuration, and come back with an explanation and a suggested fix - not a generic answer about Salesforce, but one based on what actually happened in your run.
Next steps

- Troubleshooting if something doesn't work.
